[Interview] Jessie L. Kwak – Author of From Chaos to Creativity – Armed with A Book

I had a fantastic conversation with Kriti from Armed With a Book about my obsession with productivity and the journey from chaos to creativity. We dove into why so many of us are fascinated by productivity – a blend of hustle culture’s pressure and the sheer joy of bringing our numerous ideas to life.

I shared the moment I realized I needed a creative system rather than just a productivity system. It hit me after I left my “real” office job to freelance, only to discover the challenges of managing my own schedule and finding time for my fiction writing. My journey led me to create a system tailored to my creative brain, which I detail in my book, From Chaos to Creativity.

We also chatted about my various creative pursuits outside writing, like sewing, painting, and woodworking. It’s always nice to switch gears and engage in hands-on projects – it really helps keep the creative juices flowing.

A highlight of the interview was discussing the labels like ‘influencer’ and ‘creator’ and their impact on our self-image. I emphasized the importance of not succumbing to societal pressure to commoditize our art and instead finding joy in our creative endeavors.

Burnout is a real issue for many creatives, and I shared my strategies for avoiding it by regularly stepping back to reconnect with my vision. Balancing creativity with the need for financial stability is crucial, and I encourage fellow creatives to define success on their own terms.

Writing From Chaos to Creativity was challenging, especially shifting the focus from my personal system to a more inclusive guide that helps others find their unique path. But that pivot made the book much more valuable.
